After we’ve reviewed your application and learned more about your financial circumstances, we can usually offer help options within a few weeks. In some cases, you may need to make trial payments for a few months.
You’ll receive email updates about the status of your application from your account.
The borrower portal (your online account) contains updates regarding:
The status of your application review
The status of any documentation requested from you
Next steps and timelines for each assistance process milestone
It’s always best to make any payment if you’re financially able to do so. Making payments now will reduce the amount that you'll need to repay later.
You can make a fee-free payment online, through the U.S. Bank Mobile App or by calling 800-365-7900.
First, you’ll need to send a written request that briefly explains the situation and includes these documents:
Certificate of trust or beneficiary deed showing ownership of the home
Deed record, which includes county
Death certificate
Mail to:
U.S. Bank, Attn: Successor in Interest
PO Box 21948
Eagan, MN 55121
Or fax to: 877-903-6972
Next, we’ll mail you a Potential Successor in Interest form to complete and return. We’ll review it, request additional information if needed and then formally establish you as the Successor in Interest. You’ll then be able to apply for mortgage assistance.
Your ex-spouse must sign the modification documentation unless:
They didn’t sign the note in the first place
A quit claim deed removing them was recorded with the county and you can send a copy
You can provide a divorce decree that’s been filed with the court system, stating who was awarded the property
In most cases, we’ll update your new loan terms a few weeks after we receive your final loan modification documents. We’ll start sending billing statements right away, but even if you haven’t received one yet, it’s important to resume making monthly payments.
To help stay on track in the future, you can enroll in our free autopay service in your online banking account. (Make sure to pay any past-due bills before attempting to enroll in autopay.)
