Elder Financial Exploitation is the illegal, unauthorized, or improper use of an older person's property or financial assets. An older person refers to someone 60 years old or older. Perpetrators who target older consumers typically include, but not limited to, family members, caregivers, scam artists, financial advisers, home repair contractors, and fiduciaries (agents under a power of attorney and guardians of property).
Similar to elder financial exploitation, Vulnerable Adult Exploitation is the illegal, unauthorized, or improper use of an individual 18 years of age or older who lacks sufficient understanding or capacity to make or communicate responsible decisions concerning themselves or their affairs making them susceptible to financial exploitation.
