How do I close my credit card?

Closing your credit card account is an important decision. If you have rewards that haven't been redeemed, they may be lost when the account is closed. Please note, minimum redemption amounts may apply. 

To close your credit card using digital banking 

  1. Select the credit card you'd like to close.
  2. Online banking users: Choose Card controls then select Close account
    U.S. Bank Mobile App users:
    1. Choose Manage at the top of the screen, then select Manage card within the "Card controls" section.
    2. Scroll to the "Control" section and choose Close account.
  3. On the next page, we'll explain the impact of the closure on your rewards and balance. After reviewing, select Continue.
  4. Please tell us why you'd like to close, then select Submit.
  5. We'll explain the impact of the closure on your rewards and balance once more. If you're sure you want to close the account, select Yes, close

  • By completing this process, your credit card account is immediately closed. No new transactions can be made and any pending or processing transactions will be completed. It's important to update any automatic payments you have set up and transfer those to a new account.
  • After a zero balance is reached, the credit card account will remain on your dashboard for one statement cycle before it's removed.
